My First Bike MS Ride, 2019

150 miles of baking central PA corn fields and blue sky.

A weekend hangover is the best kind! Team Rocky's Renegades spent two days cycling 150 miles over the green rolling hills of central Pennsylvania in support of the National MS Society. Our team raised over $13,000, which directly goes to support patients of MS. As we learned Saturday night from two women who shared their stories living with MS, it is often misdiagnosed-misdiagnosed-misdiagnosed and there is a huge need for doctor and "specialist" education. Fortunately with these types of fundraisers, the National MS Society is contributing to a significant wave of change in the medical system and to patient advocacy and treatment.

As for the ride.....it was the hot and humid east coast heat wave that couldn't escape the news with the heat index reaching 100F each day. The organizers made a cautionary decision Friday night to shorten each day, cancelling the ride after the midway lunch stop and busing riders the rest of the way. But could a summer heat wave stop a team of Yinzers? We looked at each other, said "NAH", and made our plan to complete the full ride. We left at dawn before the main depart, hydrated with endless bottles of water and ice, pickle juice, bananas, cookies, sammiches, custard ice cream, and potato chips (You'd eat it all too! This wasn't the marginal gains of the TdF).

I thought “WE COULD BE RIDING WE’RE ALMOST DONE HOW IMPORTANT CAN COOKIES BE” and then I tried one. Oh.

Huge team thanks to Rocky, Tony, Kevin, Don, Seth, Barb, and Ronna for making it such a fun and successful weekend, and to everyone who donated to this cause!
