Fried Pickles and Billion Dollar Settlements

Happy Anniversary and Earth Day! What I learned at six years of Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Camp: beer fixes everything, fried pickles are the only sustenance you need, and how to work as an amazing team and not kill each other. It all began with a notice of a rig on fire in the Gulf of Mexico, then being sent down to Houma a few days later and watching the uncontrolled chaos unravel. For six long years we worked with other Trustees and stakeholders, traveled to NOLA and other places for endless meetings, organized data as it’s never been organized before, and wrangled with the responsible party representatives. Thank the universe that smarter people than me were subpoenaed by the Justice Department. Here's to the United States getting a $20 billion settlement from BP for their damages to the Gulf’s natural resources and signing this gig off!

Nobody else I’d rather go into a data battle with: the NOAA Spatial Data Branch

The celebration could not be complete without an evening of jumping off the roof of George’s houseboat. I think I did it twice, but given the first photo, I don’t remember.
